About Us (About LAB)

The Library Association of Bihar (LAB) is a dynamic collective of librarians, library science faculty, educators, information scientists, library professionals, students, and book enthusiasts united by a shared vision to strengthen and advocate for libraries and the library profession across Bihar and beyond. Established to promote access to knowledge, literacy, and lifelong learning, LAB plays a pivotal role in advancing the library ecosystem in India.

Establishment and Registration

The Library Association of Bihar (LAB) was officially founded and registered on March 31, 2022, under the Societies Registration Act 21, 1860, by the Government of Bihar, with Registration No. S000434. The organization was established under the leadership of Prof. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Professor of Library and Information Science at Assam University, Assam, as Chairman, and Dr. D. D. Lal as the inaugural General Secretary. LAB is dedicated to the upliftment and professional development of library professionals, not only in Bihar but across India.

Registered and Administrative Offices

LAB’s registered office is located in Sheikhpura, Bihar, serving as a temporary address. The administrative and operational headquarters are situated at Flat No. 501, DDA Flats, PKT-3, PH-2, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Apartment, Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi-110078, ensuring efficient coordination of its activities.

Mission and Vision

The mission of the Library Association of Bihar is to empower libraries and library professionals to provide equitable access to information, foster literacy, and promote lifelong learning for all. LAB is committed to supporting its members through professional development, resource provision, and networking opportunities, enabling them to excel in their careers and contribute to the advancement of library services.
